CORRIDOR NOTES
Distances and drive times are planning estimates. Exact access, timing and delivery details are confirmed for each address before the move.
Chicago to Yuba City is a coast-to-coast relocation of roughly 2,180 miles, and Murdock’s Moving & Storage carries it the whole way on our own DOT and CPUC authority. We are an owner-operated carrier based in the Sacramento Valley, not a broker, so your belongings ride on one of our trucks with our own crew from the first box in Chicagoland to the last one set down in Yuba-Sutter. There is no hand-off to a national van line, no cross-country warehouse layover, and no sharing trailer space with an unrelated shipment - the truck loads once and heads west.
The route runs I-80 west out of Chicago across Iowa and Nebraska past Omaha, over the high plains of Wyoming and through Salt Lake City, then down out of the Sierra past Reno and over Donner Summit into Sacramento. From there we head north on CA-99 up the Valley into Yuba City. Plan on about 31 to 33 hours of actual drive time, which with loading, mandatory rest, and the mountain crossing lands at roughly five to eight days door to door. Your rate is flat and quoted before we leave Illinois, so there are no re-weighs or mileage surcharges waiting at the far end.

DESTINATION BRIEF
Yuba City sits at the heart of the Yuba-Sutter area, a stretch of the northern Sacramento Valley defined by orchards, rice fields, and the Feather River rather than city sprawl. It is farm country - peaches, prunes, walnuts, and almonds - with the twin Sutter Buttes rising out of the flat valley floor just to the west. For a family leaving Chicago, the draw is straightforward: some of the most affordable housing anywhere in California, a genuine small-town pace, and a slower, family-first rhythm, all still within an hour of Sacramento's jobs, airport, and big-box amenities.
The area's economy leans on agriculture, health care, and nearby Beale Air Force Base, which anchors a steady community of military families in and around Marysville, Yuba City's sister town across the river. People relocating here settle into established Yuba City neighborhoods, newer subdivisions on the north and west sides, riverside pockets near the Feather, or the smaller communities of Marysville, Live Oak, Sutter, and Plumas Lake. A move into Yuba-Sutter usually means a single-story family home with a real yard - the kind of space that is out of reach on the coast - and our crews are set up for exactly those suburban and semi-rural moves.
Compared with the density and cost of the Bay Area, or the winters of the Midwest, Yuba City offers Chicagoans a quiet, affordable landing spot with room for kids, gardens, and garages. You get the Feather River and the Buttes for recreation, small-town festivals and farm stands, and an easy shot down CA-99 whenever you want the bigger city.
