At roughly 1,300 miles, Chico to Colorado Springs is the longest of Murdock’s three Colorado lanes, following the same I-80 corridor through Reno, Salt Lake City, and southern Wyoming to Cheyenne before continuing on I-25 south — past Denver and over the Palmer Divide — into Colorado Springs. That last stretch adds real elevation change: I-25 climbs from Denver's mile-high floor up over the Divide before dropping into the Springs at just over 6,000 feet, a grade our drivers plan fuel stops and rest breaks around separately from the flatter Wyoming leg.

The extra 70 miles past Denver means the full route runs 19-20 hours of driving, and we schedule it as a multi-day haul with a planned overnight stop rather than pushing a crew through in one shot. Colorado Springs also sees a heavier share of military relocations than our Denver route — families moving on Fort Carson or Peterson Space Force Base orders — so we're used to coordinating pickup and delivery windows around PCS timelines that don't always give much notice.

Colorado Springs sits at the base of Pikes Peak, and the mountain shapes both the views and the neighborhoods movers land in. Old Colorado City and the Broadmoor area to the west climb into the foothills, with narrower, steeper streets that our crews scout ahead of delivery day when a full-size truck needs a shuttle vehicle for the last few hundred feet. Downtown and the near-west side offer older housing stock with more character than the newer development to the north and east.

Colorado Springs is the U.S. Space Force and Army's front-range hub — Fort Carson, Peterson Space Force Base, Schriever Space Force Base, NORAD at Cheyenne Mountain, and the Air Force Academy all sit within the metro — which means defense and aerospace contracting drive a large share of relocations here. It's also consistently cheaper to buy a home in than Denver, 70 miles north, while still offering quick access to Garden of the Gods, Pikes Peak, and the Front Range trail system. Movers should plan for one quirk of the local weather: the elevation gain from Denver over the Palmer Divide means the Springs can get a snow squall while Denver stays clear, so winter delivery dates carry a little more built-in flexibility on our end.
