Chico → Reno. One Move Plan.

Chico to Reno is short enough that it changes how we run the move: instead of staging an overnight, most Chico-to-Reno relocations load in the morning and deliver into the Reno-Sparks area that same afternoon or the next day. At roughly 155 miles, it's one of the shortest interstate lanes we run, but it's still a federally regulated interstate move — which is exactly why we operate it under our own USDOT #3421940 and MC #1416634 rather than handing it to a broker.

The route itself is the scenic one: CA-70 East out of Chico climbs into the Sierra through the Feather River Canyon, tracking the North Fork Feather River past Pulga, Belden, and Quincy before crossing over Beckwourth Pass, a lower, gentler crossing (around 5,200 feet) than the Donner Pass route drivers take out of Sacramento. From there it's a short run south on US-395 into Reno and Sparks. It's a winding two-lane canyon road for a good stretch, which our drivers know well and plan extra time around — especially with a loaded truck taking curves at a sane pace.

Because the haul is short, we typically run this as an exclusive-use truck with no consolidation and no multi-stop delays — your goods go on, the truck drives to Reno, your goods come off. Winter storms occasionally bring chain requirements on Beckwourth Pass between November and March, and we build that into scheduling on cold-weather bookings rather than surprising you with a delay. Reno has spent the last decade rebranding from a casino town into a genuine tech and logistics hub, anchored by the Tesla Gigafactory and the sprawling Tahoe Reno Industrial Center east of town, and Chico families relocating here notice the shift immediately in the neighborhoods themselves. Somersett and Caughlin Ranch, both on the west side toward the Sierra foothills, are the newer-build, HOA-managed communities most comparable to a planned Chico or Sacramento Valley subdivision — golf-course lots, community pools, and predictable move-in coordination through a property manager.

ArrowCreek and Damonte Ranch, further south, have grown fast with younger families drawn by the warehouse and manufacturing job growth along the I-80 corridor; expect newer streets, active HOAs, and sometimes strict move-in time windows. Old Southwest Reno is a different animal entirely — mature tree-lined streets, older single-family homes near the university, narrower access in spots that our crews plan around ahead of time. Midtown Reno's arts and brewery district skews toward apartments, condos, and lofts with loading-zone logistics more like a small city than a suburb. Sparks, technically its own city but functionally part of the same metro, offers some of the most affordable stock in the valley around Victorian Square.

One thing every Chico family moving here should know: Reno sits at roughly 4,500 feet, noticeably higher than Chico's valley floor, and Nevada carries no state income tax — both factors driving steady relocation interest, along with easy weekend access back to Chico and up into Lake Tahoe.
