Does Sacramento Valley heat and dry air actually damage furniture during a move?
Yes, it can. Solid wood furniture that's spent years in coastal or Bay Area humidity can crack, split, or have veneer lift when it's suddenly exposed to Valley summer heat and dry air, especially if it sits in a hot truck or garage. We pad vulnerable joints and finishes on climate-transition pieces and recommend giving wood furniture a few days to acclimate indoors before unpacking anything glued or veneered.
Can you protect furniture on a rural property with a gravel driveway?
Yes — this is routine for us. A lot of our Durham, Cohasset, Gridley, and foothill customers have long gravel or dirt driveways that add extra carry distance and bounce before furniture reaches the truck. We add extra blanket layers and corner protection on pieces making that longer carry, and our crews are experienced navigating uneven rural approaches without cutting corners on protection.
How do you protect leather furniture during a move?
Leather furniture is wrapped in clean, quilted blankets first — never plastic directly against leather, which can trap moisture and cause damage, especially in Valley heat. Shrink wrap goes over the blankets as a second barrier, and corner protectors guard against scuffs. This layered approach keeps leather finishes intact without trapping condensation.
Do you protect antique or heirloom furniture differently?
Yes. Antiques and heirlooms get extra blanket layers, custom foam padding on legs and vulnerable joints, cardboard barriers between stacked pieces, and handling by our most experienced crew members. Will shrink wrap damage my upholstery or fabric?
No. We use professional-grade stretch wrap that clings to itself, not to fabric, and we place a blanket layer underneath on delicate materials like silk or velvet before wrapping. Applied at the right tension, it protects against dirt and abrasion without pulling threads or leaving impressions.
What happens to glass tabletops and mirrored furniture?
Glass tabletops are removed and wrapped separately in bubble cushioning and foam, then transported upright in padded slots rather than flat. Mirrored surfaces get taped in an X pattern, then bubble-wrapped and boxed. Glass and mirrors travel separately from the furniture frames they came from.
