WHAT THIS SERVICE COVERS

Packing Supplies Built for the Sacramento Valley, Not the Liquor-Store Box

  • Shipping-grade moving boxes: small, medium, large, and extra-large
  • Wardrobe boxes with built-in hanging bars for closets
  • Dish-pack kits with cell dividers and foam pouches
  • Mattress bags, furniture wrap, and stretch wrap
  • Tape and materials rated to hold through Sacramento Valley summer heat
  • Same or next-day delivery from our Chico and Yuba City yards, including foothill and rural routes

Murdock’s Moving & Storage stocks the same shipping-grade materials our own crews use on every job, and we make them available to anyone in Chico, Yuba City, and the surrounding Sacramento Valley who wants to pack themselves. That means double-walled boxes rated to stack, tape that actually holds its grip, and bubble wrap thick enough to cushion on impact — not thin cardboard from behind a grocery store or recycled tape that gives out halfway through a move.

Valley heat is a bigger factor in packing than most people account for. Chico and Yuba City routinely push past 100°F between June and September, and boxes or tape sitting in a closed garage or trailer through that kind of heat cycle don't hold up the way they would in a mild climate. Cardboard loses stacking strength and cheap tape adhesive can soften and let seams lift right when a box is stacked three high in a hot trailer. We carry tape and materials rated to handle it, and we recommend packing during the cooler morning hours whenever the forecast calls for triple digits.

We're also supplying more households moving in from the Bay Area, trading San Francisco and Oakland commute distance for more space in Chico, Yuba City, Sacramento, and Roseville. Those moves usually come with more square footage to fill than a Bay Area unit ever had — garages, sheds, and home offices that need boxing on top of the usual kitchen and closets — so we help new Valley residents figure out real quantities instead of guessing low and running out mid-pack.

THE WORK / NOT THE SALES PITCH

What the Crew Plans For.

01

Shipping-Grade Moving Boxes

Double-walled, crush-resistant boxes in small, medium, large, and extra-large — the same stock our own crews load every day, not single-walled boxes pulled from a store's back room.

02

Wardrobe Boxes

Tall boxes with a built-in metal hanging bar so clothes transfer straight from the closet rod, no folding and no wrinkles. Available in standard and short heights.

03

Dish Kits & Specialty Cartons

Dish-pack boxes with cell dividers and foam pouches, plus TV boxes, mirror and picture-frame cartons, and lamp boxes for anything fragile or oddly shaped.

04

Mattress Bags & Furniture Wrap

Heavy-duty mattress bags from twin through California king, plus stretch wrap and furniture covers to protect sofas, dressers, and tables during transport.

05

Heat-Rated Tape, Paper & Bubble Wrap

Large-bubble wrap, packing paper by the bundle, and packing tape rated to keep its grip through a Chico or Yuba City summer — not adhesive that softens and lets seams pop open in a hot garage.

06

Delivery Across the Sacramento Valley

Order by phone or online and we'll deliver supplies out of our Chico or Yuba City yard to your door across Butte, Sutter, and surrounding counties — often the same day.

Pack with Confidence

Use the same shipping-grade materials our own crews trust, with tape and boxes rated to hold through Valley heat instead of softening in a hot garage.

Call In Backup Anytime

If the timeline gets tight, our partial or full packing crew can pick up exactly where you left off — same company, no re-explaining your move to someone new.

BEFORE YOU BOOK

Packing Supplies Questions.

See All FAQs
How many boxes do I need for my move?

Box counts scale with home size: a studio or 1-bedroom apartment typically needs 15-30 boxes, a 2-3 bedroom house needs 40-70, and a 4-5 bedroom home usually runs 80-120+. Households moving into Chico, Yuba City, or Sacramento from smaller Bay Area units often need more boxes than they expect once garages, sheds, and outdoor gear get packed. Use our packing calculator for a size-based estimate, or call (530) 804-5893 and we'll walk your rooms with you over the phone.

What's different about Murdock’s boxes versus store-bought ones?

Our boxes are double-walled, shipping-grade cardboard rated to stack and hold weight — the same stock our own crews load onto trucks every day. Grocery-store and liquor-store boxes are single-walled, already weakened from prior use, and tend to bow or collapse under a stack of books. Our tape is also rated to hold in Sacramento Valley heat, where cheaper adhesive can soften and let seams pop open in a hot garage or trailer.

Do you deliver packing supplies to my home?

Yes — we deliver packing supplies out of our Chico (1160 Eaton Rd) and Yuba City (929 Garden Hwy) yards to homes across Chico, Yuba City, Oroville, Marysville, Sacramento, and Roseville, often same or next day. Call (530) 804-5893 or request a quote online and tell us your home size so we can bring the right quantities on the first trip.

Does Sacramento Valley heat actually affect packing supplies?

Yes — boxes and tape left in a hot garage or trailer during a Chico or Yuba City summer, when afternoons routinely push past 100°F, break down faster than most people expect. Tape adhesive can soften and lift, and cardboard exposed to repeated heat cycles loses its stacking strength. We recommend packing in the cooler morning hours, storing filled boxes indoors rather than a hot garage, and using our heat-rated tape rather than a bargain roll.

Can I switch to professional packing if I run out of time?

Absolutely. Plenty of Chico and Yuba City households start packing themselves with our supplies and then call us to finish the kitchen, closets, or garage when the calendar runs short. Because it's the same company, our packing crew can pick up exactly where you left off — no re-explaining the move to a stranger. Call (530) 804-5893 and we'll schedule a partial packing crew around your timeline.

How do I pack fragile items like dishes and glassware?

Wrap each piece individually in several sheets of packing paper, then load dishes on edge — like records, not stacked flat — inside a dish-pack box with cell dividers. Nest glasses upside-down in their own cells and fill every gap with crumpled paper so nothing can shift in transit. Mark the box FRAGILE on every side and keep it off the bottom of the stack in the truck.

Do you deliver supplies to foothill or rural addresses like Paradise and Oroville?

Yes — we regularly deliver packing supplies to foothill and rural properties around Paradise, Magalia, and the Oroville area, including gravel driveways and longer ag-country approach roads that a standard delivery van would struggle with. We also supply families unpacking storage units as part of a Camp Fire rebuild move-in, and we handle that timing with care.
