The Item Sets the Plan.

A piano and a gun safe have almost nothing in common except that both will punish an amateur move. A piano is a delicate cabinet of tuned tension over an iron plate — drop it two inches wrong and you've cracked a soundboard or knocked it permanently out of tune. A safe is the opposite problem: raw, unbalanced mass, often 400 to 2,000+ pounds, with no forgiving surface to grip. Murdock’s crews carry piano boards, safe skates, appliance dollies rated for the load, and door-frame/stair-rigging setups for both, because loading either one onto a standard hand truck is how houses get damaged and backs get hurt.

This part of the Sacramento Valley adds its own wrinkles. Downtown Chico and Oroville still have plenty of older Craftsman and Victorian homes with narrow original staircases and tight turns that a modern piano dolly wasn't designed for — those moves get done with piano boards, blanket-wrapped rigging, and a crew that knows how to walk a baby grand around a 90-degree landing without gouging the newel post. Out in Yuba City, Gridley, and the ag country along Highway 99, safes are frequently going into detached shops, barns, or outbuildings on gravel or dirt access — no smooth driveway, no elevator, just a ramp truck and a plan for uneven ground.

We also see a steady flow of Bay Area transplants relocating into Chico, Roseville, and Sacramento who are bringing a family piano along for the first time in years, and estate or downsizing moves where a piano hasn't been touched since it was delivered decades ago — both need extra care checking hardware, casters, and pedal linkages before the move even starts. On the safe side, the foothill communities rebuilding after wildfire — Paradise, Magalia, Forest Ranch — are placing a lot of new gun safes and fire safes into rebuilt homes, often on new concrete slabs or into finished basements with specific placement requirements; we coordinate that placement so the safe lands exactly where the homeowner's insurance and floor plan call for.
