From Knoxville, a Charlotte-bound load stays on I-40 through the Blue Ridge foothills near Asheville — some of the steepest highway grades on the entire route — and continues east to Statesville, North Carolina, where we drop south onto I-77 for the final run into Charlotte. That mountain crossing and the extra eastward push over Atlanta-bound loads add up to roughly 2,560 miles and 37-38 hours of driving.
