CORRIDOR NOTES
Distances and drive times are planning estimates. Exact access, timing and delivery details are confirmed for each address before the move.
Chico sits north of the main east-west interstate, so the Salt Lake City to Chico move takes I-80 West across the desert and then peels off toward the Sacramento Valley. Murdock’s Moving runs it as a licensed, owner-operated carrier on our own USDOT and Cal-T authority (USDOT 3421940, MC 1416634, CPUC 0192159) - one truck, one crew, no broker in the middle and no swapping your belongings onto a shared van-line trailer. The same team that wraps and loads in the Salt Lake Valley drives your shipment the whole way to Butte County.
From the Wasatch Front the route drops onto I-80 West, crosses the Bonneville Salt Flats past Wendover, and runs across northern Nevada through Winnemucca to Reno. From the Reno area the drivers cut northwest on CA-70 through the Feather River Canyon, following the river down out of the Sierra and into Chico - roughly 675 miles and 10 to 11 hours of driving. Because it is a full day-plus behind the wheel with long empty stretches, we plan fuel and rest carefully and schedule delivery across two to three days with a firm window, so you know when the truck will reach your new Chico home.

DESTINATION BRIEF
Chico is a foothill university town at the north end of the Sacramento Valley, and for anyone coming from Salt Lake City the pace is the draw: a compact, walkable downtown built around Chico State, a lower cost of living than California's big metros, and easy access to the outdoors. The centerpiece is Bidwell Park, one of the largest municipal parks in the country, running from downtown up into the foothills along Chico Creek - swimming holes, trails, and old oaks that give the town its shaded, green character.
The community has rebuilt and grown considerably since the 2018 Camp Fire displaced thousands from nearby Paradise and the Ridge, and much of that population resettled in and around Chico, tightening the housing market but reinforcing a strong local identity. Neighborhoods range from the historic homes and student energy of the Avenues and downtown to newer family subdivisions on the north and east sides, plus the small-town feel of nearby Durham and the foothill setting of Paradise.
A move to Chico usually means trading a Salt Lake house for a comparably sized home at a gentler price point, often with more yard and foothill scenery. Murdock’s is a Northern California carrier with a Chico yard, so this is home turf for our crews - we know the downtown streets, the campus-area parking, and the foothill driveways, and we plan access and unload accordingly.
