The haul from Seattle to Chico is a straight shot down Interstate 5. Our crew rolls out of the Puget Sound, drops through Tacoma and past the Columbia River at Portland, then climbs the Cascade foothills of southern Oregon toward the Siskiyou Summit near the California line. From there it's down into the upper Sacramento Valley through Redding and Red Bluff before we peel off Highway 99 into Chico. It's roughly 605 miles and about 9.5 to 10.5 hours of driving, with mountain grades at the Siskiyous that reward an experienced driver who has run the pass before.
Because Murdock’s Moving & Storage is an owner-operated carrier and not a broker, the same truck and the same crew that wrap and load your home in Seattle are the ones who carry it over the summit and unload it in Chico. Nothing gets handed to a third party or cross-docked at a warehouse along the way. Chico is a college town with a big-park heart, anchored by Cal State Chico and one of the largest municipal parks in the country. Bidwell Park runs for miles along Chico Creek, from the swimming holes and Sycamore Pool near downtown out into the rugged upper-park canyons in the Sierra foothills. After the years of wildfire recovery that reshaped the wider Butte County region, Chico has become the practical hub of the north valley, and its walkable, tree-shaded downtown of brick storefronts, breweries and Thursday-night markets is a big part of the draw for people trading Seattle density for something slower.
Most Seattle transplants land in the leafy Avenues and Mansion Park neighborhoods near downtown and campus, in family-friendly east Chico around Bruce Road and Canyon Oaks, or just south toward the airport and the newer subdivisions. A move into Chico usually means more square footage, a real yard and a garage for the price of a Seattle condo, so our crews are often filling a larger home than the one we emptied. We handle the single-family unloads, the walk-ups near campus, and the storage-in-transit when a Chico closing lands a few days behind the Seattle move-out.
