Murdock’s Moving & Storage built our unpacking service for exactly that moment. Can Murdock’s unpack the same day as my move?
Yes. We regularly schedule unpacking crews to start as soon as your belongings are off the truck. On larger Sacramento Valley homes we often begin unpacking the kitchen and primary bedroom while the rest of the load is still coming in, so you can sleep in a made bed and make coffee the next morning instead of digging through boxes.
Do you actually organize the kitchen and closets, or just open boxes?
We organize, not just open. Dishes go into cabinets, glassware gets grouped, clothes are hung by type, and pantries are set up so everyday items are easy to find. If you have a specific system — silverware drawer on the left, spices alphabetized — show our crew and we'll follow it. Otherwise our team organizes based on years of setting up Chico and Yuba City homes.
What happens to all the empty boxes and packing paper?
We break down every empty box and collect all packing paper and materials, staging them for curbside recycling or removal before we leave. You won't be left storing a garage full of flattened cardboard through a hot Central Valley summer.
Can I book unpacking for just a few rooms instead of the whole house?
Yes. Partial unpacking is one of our most requested options — kitchen-only, kitchen plus closets, or just the main living areas are common choices. You handle the rest at your own pace while the rooms that matter most are ready from day one.
How long does unpacking a house take?
A typical 3-bedroom Sacramento Valley home takes roughly 4-6 hours for a full unpack; larger 4-5 bedroom homes usually run a full day, and kitchen-only unpacking is often done in 2-3 hours. We'll give you a realistic time estimate once we know your home size and box count.
Do you serve rural or foothill properties outside Chico and Yuba City?
Yes. We regularly unpack homes throughout the greater Sacramento Valley, including Butte and Sutter County foothill and rural properties. If your driveway is long, gravel, or tight for a second delivery trip, tell us in advance so we can plan the crew and any staging accordingly.
