Kansas City to Sacramento is roughly 1,722 miles of interstate, and Murdock’s Moving handles the whole run as one continuous carrier move - the crew that loads your home in Missouri is the crew that unloads it in the California capital. We start north on I-29 out of Kansas City up to the Omaha area, then turn west on I-80 for the long haul across the Nebraska plains, over the Wyoming high desert past Cheyenne and Laramie, through the Utah salt flats and Salt Lake City, and on across Nevada toward Reno.

From Reno we climb the Sierra Nevada over Donner Summit and descend into the Sacramento Valley, with I-80 delivering us straight into the Greater Sacramento region. Murdock’s runs on our own USDOT and CPUC authority as an owner-operated carrier, not a broker, so there's no reload, no warehouse transfer and no third-party line-haul - your goods ride one trailer end to end. Depending on weather across the Rockies and the Sierra passes and your requested delivery date, plan on a three-to-five-day transit.

Sacramento is California's state capital and the urban hub of the northern valley - a genuine metro with a revived downtown, the historic grid of Midtown, and a river-laced geography where the American and Sacramento rivers meet at the edge of the Delta. For someone relocating from Kansas City, it's the most big-city of the three valley destinations, with a comparable urban feel but anchored by state government, a growing tech presence (Intel employs thousands in the region), and major healthcare systems like Kaiser Permanente, Sutter and UC Davis Health.

Much of Sacramento's recent growth is Bay Area overflow - people priced out of San Francisco and San Jose moving inland for far lower housing costs while staying within about two hours of the coast, Napa, and Lake Tahoe. Newcomers weigh walkable central neighborhoods like Midtown, East Sacramento and Land Park against suburban master-planned communities in Natomas, Elk Grove, Folsom, Roseville and Rocklin. A Murdock’s delivery might be a tight Midtown Victorian with street parking or a two-story suburban home in a newer Elk Grove subdivision - two very different unloads our crews plan for.

The draw is a balanced California lifestyle: the farm-to-fork food scene, riverfront and Delta recreation, and quick weekend access to Tahoe and Napa, all at a cost of living well under the coastal metros - though still a step up from Kansas City, which is the trade newcomers make for that access and climate.
