Portland to Sacramento is a classic I-5 haul, roughly 580 miles that runs nine to ten hours of driving straight down the West Coast's main north-south corridor. We pull out of the Portland metro on Interstate 5, follow the Willamette Valley south through Salem and Eugene, pass Ashland near the Oregon line, then climb the Siskiyou Summit into California and descend through Redding into the Sacramento Valley. From there it is a level shot down I-5 into the capital. Compared with Portland, buyers generally find comparable or better home value plus far more reliable sunshine, though summer heat and California's tax and cost structure are real adjustments.
