CORRIDOR NOTES

What This Route Changes.

Distances and drive times are planning estimates. Exact access, timing and delivery details are confirmed for each address before the move.

Portland to Yuba City is about 545 miles of mostly Interstate 5, a nine-and-a-half to ten-hour drive that our crews run southbound the entire way. We leave the Portland metro on I-5, track down the Willamette Valley through Salem and Eugene, climb over the Siskiyou Summit at the state line, and descend into Redding and the north end of the Sacramento Valley. From there we drop south on CA-99 and cut over on CA-70 into Yuba City and the Yuba-Sutter area. Murdock’s Moving is an owner-operated carrier running our own trucks under our own DOT and CPUC authority, so the crew that loads you in Portland is the same crew that unloads you in Yuba City. Your household goods stay on one truck the whole way, never brokered out or transferred.

The one stretch we plan carefully around is the Siskiyou Summit, which crests above 4,300 feet and can throw snow and chain controls at you into spring. We schedule departures for daylight and good-weather windows and build a little slack into longer-distance runs so a mountain storm never turns into a missed delivery. A typical Portland-to-Yuba-City move wraps in two to three days door to door, with a delivery window you can actually schedule around. One flat price, one point of contact, one crew, start to finish.

DESTINATION BRIEF

Arriving in Yuba City.

  • Among the most affordable housing in Northern California, so Portland home equity buys far more square footage and land
  • Wide-open Sacramento Valley setting with orchards, rice country, and the Sutter Buttes instead of Pacific Northwest density
  • Family-oriented, small-community pace with lower cost of living across the board
  • Steady employment in agriculture, healthcare, and the military economy around Beale Air Force Base
  • Close enough to Sacramento (about 40 miles) for capital-region jobs and amenities without capital-region prices

Yuba City sits in the heart of the Yuba-Sutter region, the agricultural belt where the Sacramento Valley's orchards and rice fields spread out beneath the Sutter Buttes, often called the world's smallest mountain range. For Portland households, the draw here is simple affordability and space: Yuba City consistently offers some of the most reasonable home prices in Northern California, so the equity from a Portland sale stretches into a bigger house, a real yard, and often a shorter mortgage. It is less a college town or capital city and more a practical, family-oriented community rooted in farming, small business, and the rhythm of the growing season.

Newcomers typically settle into established Yuba City neighborhoods, the newer subdivisions on the north and west sides, or across the Feather River in Marysville, Linda, and Olivehurst. Nearby Beale Air Force Base anchors a steady military and defense-adjacent community, so the area is used to families moving in and out and setting down roots. A move to Yuba City usually looks like a single-family home with a garage and land to spread out, and downtown Sacramento is close enough (about 40 miles south) that some households commute or split the difference. Our crews handle these moves regularly, from suburban two-stories to rural properties out among the orchards.
