CORRIDOR NOTES
Distances and drive times are planning estimates. Exact access, timing and delivery details are confirmed for each address before the move.
Yuba City to Reno is the shortest interstate lane Murdock’s runs, and it's also the one where the terrain matters more than the mileage. The truck leaves Sutter County, drops south to pick up I-80 near Sacramento or Roseville, and climbs steadily through Auburn, Colfax, and Emigrant Gap before crossing Donner Summit at just over 7,000 feet elevation — the same pass the original transcontinental railroad and highway were built through. On the descent into Truckee, I-80 drops back down into the Reno-Sparks valley for the final 30 miles.
At 132 miles, this is close enough that Murdock’s can often load and deliver the same day or the next, rather than the multi-day transit window longer interstate routes require. That said, it's still a full crew, a full DOT-authorized interstate shipment, and a signed bill of lading — not a casual local move that happens to cross a state line. We run it under our own USDOT# 3421940 and MC# 1416634 with the same crew from pickup to delivery.
The one variable this route carries that the others don't is the Sierra grade itself: Donner Summit gets real winter weather, and Caltrans posts chain controls on I-80 through that stretch in heavier storms, typically November through April. Murdock’s tracks the pass conditions ahead of your load date and will shift the departure time — not the date — to move around a storm window whenever the forecast allows it, so a winter booking doesn't automatically mean a delay.

DESTINATION BRIEF
Reno has spent the last decade shedding its old identity as a casino-only stopover. The Tesla Gigafactory in nearby Storey County, plus Apple, Google, and Switch data center campuses along the I-80 corridor, have pulled a steady stream of Sacramento and Bay Area transplants east over the hill for tech and logistics jobs — while Nevada's lack of a state income tax closes the deal for a lot of them. Neighborhoods reflect that mix: Caughlin Ranch and ArrowCreek sit in the foothills southwest of downtown with larger lots and mountain views; Damonte Ranch and South Meadows offer newer suburban construction closer to the tech corridor; Midtown Reno and the historic Old Southwest have walkable, older housing stock popular with younger buyers; and Sparks, Reno's twin city to the east, adds another layer of affordable, family-oriented subdivisions.
For movers, the terrain itself is the recurring theme. Caughlin Ranch and ArrowCreek homes are frequently built into the hillside with steep, narrow driveways that take real planning to stage a truck against. Old Southwest Reno's tree-lined streets were platted decades before modern trucks existed, so on-street parking permits or a shuttle plan are sometimes necessary. And because Reno sits at roughly 4,500 feet, winter delivery scheduling has to account for possible snow at the destination even after a clear climb over Donner — Murdock’s builds that into the delivery window rather than treating it as a surprise.
This is our shortest interstate lane at roughly 132 miles and 2.5 to 3 hours of driving, so Murdock’s can often complete pickup and delivery within 1 to 2 days rather than the multi-day window longer routes need. Exact timing still depends on your inventory size and preferred dates.
It can, but Murdock’s tracks Caltrans chain-control conditions on I-80 ahead of every winter load date and shifts the departure time around storm windows whenever the forecast allows it. We'd rather adjust the hour than push your delivery date.
Yes. Any move crossing from California into Nevada is an interstate shipment regardless of distance, and Murdock’s runs it under our own USDOT# 3421940 and MC# 1416634 with a full bill of lading and DOT-compliant crew — the same standard as our longer routes.
In most cases, yes, though the foothill lots in those neighborhoods often need a pre-move site check to plan the staging and, occasionally, a shuttle for the steepest approaches. We flag this during your quote so there's no surprise on delivery day.
Murdock’s quotes this route flat-rate and all-in after a walkthrough of your inventory, with no reweigh charge added at delivery. Given the short distance, it's typically one of our most straightforward interstate quotes to put together.
