Chico to San Diego is the longest all-California run Murdock’s runs regularly — about 610 miles, almost entirely on I-5 south. The route follows the same Central Valley stretch as our Los Angeles moves, over the Grapevine and through the LA basin, but then keeps going: through Orange County, past Camp Pendleton's undeveloped coastline, and down into San Diego along I-5 through La Jolla and Old Town. At roughly 10-10.5 hours of driving, this is a two-day route for our crew, and federal hours-of-service rules mean we plan an overnight stop, typically in the Bakersfield or LA area, rather than pushing a driver past safe limits.

Because Murdock’s operates this move under our own USDOT# 3421940 and MC# 1416634, your belongings stay on the same truck with the same crew from Chico all the way to San Diego — there's no reload at a regional terminal, which is where damage and delay usually happen on long interstate lanes. We build in the Grapevine weather contingency and the LA rush-hour timing the same way we do on shorter LA runs, then add the second leg south through Orange County and North County San Diego.

San Diego adds its own delivery logistics on the back end. A lot of the housing stock near the coast — La Jolla, Pacific Beach, Point Loma — sits on narrow, hilly streets that a 53-foot trailer can't navigate, so we often stage a shuttle for final delivery.
