The haul from Colorado Springs to Chico is a classic Front Range-to-Sacramento Valley run of roughly 1,300 miles. Our crew rolls north out of El Paso County on I-25 through Denver and up to Cheyenne, then turns west onto I-80 for the long pull across southern Wyoming, the salt flats of Utah, and the Nevada high desert past Winnemucca and Reno. From Reno the truck climbs Donner Summit into California, drops down through Auburn, and cuts north up Highway 99 into Chico. Expect 19-20 hours of driving spread over a realistic two-to-four-day window depending on Sierra weather.

Chico is a genuine university town built around Chico State, and that gives the whole city a walkable, tree-shaded, bike-friendly rhythm you feel the day you arrive. The 3,600-acre Bidwell Park - one of the largest municipal parks in the country - runs right through town along Big Chico Creek, so trailheads, swimming holes, and shady picnic spots are minutes from downtown rather than a weekend drive away. Downtown itself is compact and lively, full of local restaurants, the Thursday night market in the warm months, and a coffee-shop culture that comes with a college town.
If you're moving to Chico, you're likely landing in neighborhoods like The Avenues near campus, the established homes of the Chapman and Barber districts, family-friendly California Park around its private lake, or the newer subdivisions pushing out toward north Chico and Meriam Park. The town has spent the years since the 2018 Camp Fire absorbing and rebuilding a wave of new residents from the foothills, so there's an active market of both older character homes and fresh construction. Because Chico sits where the flat valley floor meets the Sierra foothills, many buyers get more yard and more trees here than they'd find on the Front Range.
