CORRIDOR NOTES

What This Route Changes.

Distances and drive times are planning estimates. Exact access, timing and delivery details are confirmed for each address before the move.

Yuba City to Boise runs about 540 miles in the opposite direction from our Oregon and Washington routes — east instead of north — and the drive itself is one of the more dramatic on our interstate map. We load out of Yuba City and head toward Sacramento to pick up I-80 East, then climb into the Sierra Nevada toward Donner Summit, topping out above 7,000 feet before dropping into Truckee and Reno-Sparks, Nevada. From there, I-80 stretches across Nevada's high desert through Winnemucca, and our route turns north on US-95 into Idaho, connecting to I-84 for the final run into the Boise-Treasure Valley.

The Sierra crossing is the piece most movers underestimate. Donner Summit can require chains well into spring, and our drivers check conditions before every departure rather than assuming a clear pass. Once you're past Reno, the drive opens up into long, flat stretches of Nevada high desert — good mileage, but a real test of a truck's cooling system in summer heat, which is why our equipment gets serviced specifically for desert runs.

At roughly 8.5-9 hours of driving, this is one of our shorter long-haul routes, and most Yuba City to Boise moves deliver within a 2-3 day window. Because Murdock’s operates under our own authority — USDOT #3421940 and MC #1416634 — your shipment doesn't get handed off to a regional Idaho carrier partway through; the crew that packs your Yuba City home is the crew that carries it into the Treasure Valley. We also offer storage-in-transit if your Boise closing date falls after your move-out date.

DESTINATION BRIEF

Arriving in Boise.

  • Housing costs well below Sacramento Valley and Bay Area prices
  • Explosive suburban growth in Meridian, Eagle, and Star with new-construction inventory
  • A lower overall tax burden than California, including a lower state income tax rate
  • Outdoor access to the Boise foothills, whitewater rivers, and nearby ski resorts
  • Job growth in tech and semiconductors anchored by Micron's headquarters

Boise's North End is the neighborhood most Californians picture when they imagine small-city living done right — tree-lined streets, century-old craftsman and Tudor homes, and a walkable core near Hyde Park. It's also one of the trickier delivery zones on this route: narrow streets, mature trees, and limited off-street parking mean our crew often plans a shuttle or a tighter parking window than a typical suburban delivery. The Boise Bench and East Boise, near Boise State University, offer a similar older-home character with slightly more room to maneuver a truck.

Most of the growth — and most of our deliveries — land in the suburbs ringing the city. Meridian has been one of the fastest-growing cities in the country for several years running, with wide streets and new-construction subdivisions that make for straightforward delivery access. Eagle draws buyers looking for larger lots and a more upscale feel along the Boise River, while Nampa and Star offer more affordable entry points with a longer commute into downtown. Kuna, on the valley's southern edge, has become a landing spot for families who want acreage.

The pull for Northern California families is straightforward: Idaho's cost of living, especially housing, runs well below Sacramento Valley prices, and the Treasure Valley's high-desert setting means real seasons — snow in winter, dry heat in summer — without the extremes of Nevada's desert. Idaho does still levy a state income tax, lower than California's but worth factoring in. Wherever you land in the valley, we scout truck access ahead of delivery day so a narrow North End street doesn't become a surprise.

BEFORE YOU BOOK

Yuba City to Boise Questions.

See All FAQs
How far is the drive from Yuba City to Boise?

Yuba City to Boise is about 540 miles, running east on I-80 over Donner Summit through Reno before turning north into Idaho, roughly 8.5-9 hours of driving. It's one of our shorter long-distance routes and typically delivers in a 2-3 day door-to-door window.

Is Murdock’s licensed for interstate moves into Idaho?

Yes. Murdock’s operates as a licensed interstate carrier under USDOT #3421940 and MC #1416634, which authorizes household goods moves from California into Idaho and across state lines nationwide. We carry your shipment ourselves rather than brokering it to another company.

Does the Donner Summit crossing cause delays in winter?

It can — Donner Summit sits above 7,000 feet and frequently requires tire chains from late fall through spring. Murdock’s drivers check Caltrans conditions before every departure and build weather buffers into winter schedules on this route as standard practice.

Do you deliver to Boise suburbs like Meridian and Eagle?

Yes, we deliver throughout the Treasure Valley, including Meridian, Eagle, Nampa, Star, and Kuna, not just Boise city limits. Share your exact delivery address when you request a quote so we can plan for either a wide-street subdivision or a tighter North End lot.

How much advance notice do I need to book this route?

We recommend booking 3-4 weeks ahead for a Yuba City to Boise move to lock in your preferred pickup date, especially during the summer peak season. Shorter-notice moves are often still possible — call to check current availability.
