Yuba City → Spokane. One Move Plan.

Yuba City to Spokane is the longest route we run, at roughly 730 miles, and it doesn't take a straight line to get there. We load out of Yuba City and follow I-5 North through Redding and over the Siskiyou Summit — the same start as our Portland and Seattle routes — but instead of continuing up the I-5 spine, we cut east on I-84 at Portland, following the Columbia River Gorge through Hood River and The Dalles toward Umatilla and Pendleton. From there, the route turns north on US-395, crosses into Washington, and picks up I-90 East for the final stretch into Spokane.

The Gorge segment deserves real respect on this route — wind gusts through the Columbia River Gorge near Hood River are a known hazard for high-profile trucks, and our drivers watch conditions there the way they watch snow on other routes. East of the Gorge, the terrain opens into the high desert plateau of eastern Oregon and Washington, hot and exposed in summer, before the landscape shifts again into Spokane's pine-covered, four-season country near the Idaho border.

At 12-13 hours of driving, this route requires an overnight rest stop, and most Yuba City to Spokane moves run a 3-5 day door-to-door window once loading, transit, and delivery scheduling are factored in. Spokane feels different from anywhere else on our Pacific Northwest routes because it isn't coastal — it's inland, closer in climate and character to the Rockies than to Seattle or Portland. South Hill is the city's signature neighborhood: historic homes with real yards on streets that climb steeply above downtown, offering some of the best views in the city and, for our crews, some genuinely tight turns and grades to plan around. Kendall Yards, a newer riverfront redevelopment near downtown, and Browne's Addition, packed with restored Victorian-era mansions, round out Spokane's core neighborhoods.

Most of the metro's growth is happening in Spokane Valley to the east and Liberty Lake near the Idaho border, both offering newer construction and easier truck access than the historic core. Cheney to the southwest, home to Eastern Washington University, and Mead and Airway Heights to the north give families more suburban and semi-rural options within a short drive of the city.

The appeal for Northern California families is a genuine one: Washington has no state income tax, and Spokane's housing costs run far below both Seattle and most of the Sacramento Valley, all while keeping a real downtown, a university presence at Gonzaga, and a solid healthcare and manufacturing job base. What Spokane doesn't offer is coastal mildness — this is a place with actual winters, basements, and snow tires, a real adjustment for anyone moving out of the Central Valley.
